Cruise Network Plus is both a Consortium and a Host Agency, which gives us the flexibility to customize our program to fit the needs of each individual member based upon their specific situation and needs. Our members range from independent home-based agents to small, brick-and-mortar agencies. Some prefer to work with CNP as a Host Agency, while others prefer a Consortium-type arrangement, or some combination of the two. Below is an explanation of each type of program and examples of how it might work for you.
 |
Consortium -
With Cruise Network Plus acting as a Consortium, your agency or company name is set up with individual vendors and linked to Cruise Network Plus. By doing this, all your bookings are done under your own name and number. Cruise Network Plus is not involved in any of the booking, payment or document processing. There are pros and cons to this method:
Pros - You do not have to deal with CNP for anything. You set up the linking one time, and it stays in place. You are recognized by the vendor in some cases. You get better scaled levels than on your own. You have access to CNP's national account pricing and support (Example: Key Account Fares).
Cons - You will only get the commission levels your agency or company earns in the tiered system, which is usually less than what you would get if you booked under the CNP name and number. There are some vendors who will not allow us to link you as a member and give you benefits. Also, although you may be recognized with the vendor, that is not necessarily a good thing. Here's an example: Let's say your agency does $25,000 in sales with RCCL. Under their policies, you are not assigned any sales rep in either Miami or in the field. You do not have any option to get overrides or co-op money. If you booked as CNP, however, your volume would be part of a multi-million dollar company. This would allow you access to key account/group fares, key account sales representatives, as well as co-op money. By booking as CNP instead of on your own, you would have a lot more clout with the vendor, even though your individual sales are still only $25,000.

Host Agency -
This is the most popular method. Your bookings are done under the name and number of either Cruise Network Plus or Business & Pleasure Travel (B & P is the parent company of CNP). This gives you higher commissions from dollar one. In addition, because you are associated with us as if you were an employee or independent contractor, you will have access to our vendor reps. This can be a significant advantage.
When booking with CNP as Host Agency, we facilitate the transfer of all faxes and information to you in a very fast and efficient method. As a member of CNP, you will have access to our Members Only web site, which will include a private area where all your forms and confirmations will be uploaded regularly throughout the work day, allowing you to retreive them at your convenience. We will send payments out for you and forward all documents to you at no cost via regular ground service. (Express or overnight shipping is available upon request, but will be charged to the Member's account).
The pros and cons of this method are as follows:
Pros - You get higher commissions from dollar one without having to reach individual target levels for commissions. Availability of sales representatives through CNP regardless of your volume. Co-op money available through CNP.
Cons - CNP acts as the middle person for faxes, payments and documents. Your agency or company name is not recognized by the vendor. (See example under 'Consortium' above as to why that is not necessarily a bad thing.)

Combination -
CNP can customize the program for you, allowing for a combination of the Consortium and Host Agency methods. For instance, if you are selling a large volume of a particular vendor, have a sales representative and are getting substantial commissions, you would not want to change that. You could link that particular vendor, but then book other vendors direct with CNP as Host Agency. You can pick and chose which vendors you want to book which way.
